Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal to develop the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project (BMRC) Phase-I from the Biju Patnaik International Airport to Trisulia Square near Cuttack on 14 November, 2023
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will undertake the Rs 5,929.38 crore project as a turnkey consultant by charging a fee of Rs 326.56 crore. The first phase will be 26-km-long and will have 20 stations, including Capital Hospital, Rajmahal Square, Vani Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar, and Patia, among others. The government targets to complete the first phase in four years. The next phases will cover other parts of Bhubaneswar and Khurda, besides Cuttack and Puri
The project seeks to facilitate comfortable, safer and convenient transportation for the public in these regions. On 07 October, 2023, the Chief Minister approved the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by DMRC. The metro rail tracks and stations will be on elevated viaducts. Along with this, Bhubaneswar Metro will accomodate ultra-modern coaches, an advanced ticketing system and a signalling system
there is a plan to develop the Cuttack-Puri-Bhubaneswar triangle as a Greater Capital Region metropolitan city, catering to a population of around 50 lakh people. There is almost no requirement for additional land acquisition for the tracks, which will run above the median or on the side of the existing roads. The metro train depot will come up at Trisulia
the government had sanctioned the metro project under the government's 5T initiative. Moreover, the government had stated thet CM Naveen Patnaik would lay the foundation stone of the Bhubaneswar Metro project on 01 January
